For newborns (0–3 months): contrast cards

The most useful gift for the youngest babies is also the simplest. A newborn sees blurry shapes and distinguishes only strong contrasts, so black-and-white contrast cards are the first thing a baby really reacts to — from the third week onwards. Parents use them daily: during nappy changes, in the pram, for a calm moment before sleep.
